What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a medical-grade skincare treatment that deeply exfoliates the skin using active ingredients. After treatment, the skin peels and reveals a healthy new layer of skin underneath. Chemical peels come in different strengths, allowing them to address different concerns.
- Light chemical peels address only the top layers of skin. They’re ideal for surface-level concerns like rough skin, skin texture, dryness, and dull skin tone. Superficial peels come with minimal downtime.
- Medium chemical peels reach deeper into the skin and can address more difficult concerns like uneven skin tone, sun exposure, and more. Medium chemical peels come with some dedicated recovery, as well as a couple weeks of peeling.
- Deep chemical peels most effectively address skin concerns, especially ones that exist deep in the skin. Deep chemical peels are ideal for deep scars like acne scars, as well as deep facial lines and wrinkles. Although they come with substantial downtime and peeling, they can transform your skin and take years off your facial appearance.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?
You’re likely a good candidate for a chemical peel if you have skin concerns that aren’t easily treated with your skincare regimen or other types of facials. You’ll discuss your medical history with our skincare experts to determine whether chemical peels are a good fit. You’ll also determine the right depth of peel and which active ingredients will be best for your skin.
How to Prepare for a Chemical Peel
Some preparation steps are key for a successful chemical peel. We recommend stopping all use of active ingredients in your skincare regimen, as well as manual exfoliation, for a few weeks ahead of your appointment. This especially includes the use of retinols. Keep your skin protected from sun exposure, too. Arrive at your appointment free of any makeup or skincare products to speed up the process.

“This is a great place to do your “fix ups”. Everything is explained to you so that you understand the process of your fix. If you do/don’t need something done they will be honest. I feel their number is not the money it is the patient. If you need or want some work done I would definitely refer you to these docs.”

The Chemical Peel Procedure
Your chemical peel begins with cleansing your skin, removing any makeup, debris, or oil. Your skincare expert will help you select the right chemical peel depth and composition. Many chemical peels include ingredients like glycolic acid, trichloroacetic acid, lactic acid, carbolic acid, salicylic acid, or a blend of multiple options. The chemical solution will be applied to your clean skin and left for a specific amount of time. Then, the chemical solution is neutralized. Your skin will be moisturized and prepared for the rest of your day with SPF.
Recovery After a Chemical Peel
Your recovery after a chemical peel depends on the depth and type of treatment. For the first few days, you may have some redness and irritation. Peeling typically begins at this point, lasting for days to weeks. It’s extremely important to avoid picking, peeling, rubbing, or scrubbing the skin, which can damage it. Your skincare expert will provide detailed instructions to follow for keeping your skin healthy and hydrated. Most importantly, keep your skin protected with SPF 30+ daily and avoid direct sun exposure. For a deep peel, you may only need a single treatment, whereas light chemical peels can sometimes be repeated monthly for best results. You’ll be given a detailed schedule of treatments based on your goals.
